Science at Cedars

Welcome to the Science area.

The subject coordinator is Mrs Sames.

The aims of our science curriculum at Cedars are,

to ensure that all pupils;

  • develop a scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through  the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics;
  • develop an understanding of the nature, process and methods of science through different types of scientific enquiries that help children to ask and answer scientific questions about the world around them;
  • all children are equipped with the scientific vocabulary and knowledge to understand its uses and implications in the world today and in the future.

Cedars Curriculum Statement

At Cedars Primary School, teaching and learning is based upon a language rich themed curriculum where pupils are exposed to a range of experiences to enhance their knowledge, understanding and long term memory. As a result, pupils at Cedars are confident, aspirational, articulate learners who are ready for the next stage of education.

How Science is taught

Science at Cedars is taken from the National Curriculum expectations. Teachers use the Lancashire Curriculum and Hamilton Trust to plan a series of lessons, connected to the main topic for each half term.  All teachers plan exciting, hands on investigations and experiments to further develop children's scientific knowledge and understanding.
