At Cedars Primary School, teaching and learning is based upon a language rich themed curriculum where pupils are exposed to a range of experiences to enhance their knowledge, understanding and long term memory. As a result, pupils at Cedars are confident, aspirational, articulate learners who are ready for the next stage of education.
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
Design and Technology at Cedars is taught through the Lancashire Curriculum Plans, each year group has a topic that they focus on each half term.
Below is the overview for Design and Technology.
Year 2's topic was explorers and their design criteria was to design and create a moving vehicle that would tow Kassim and greedy pirate's ship! The children knew that their vehicle had to have large wheels and a tow.
They looked at strengths and weaknesses and then finally evaluated their finished product.
