Welcome To The Polar Bears
Class 2017 -2018!
We have plenty of exciting activities planned for this term and we are looking forward to learning a lot of new things. Thank you for visiting our class page! Click on the Learning Gallery link to view all our learning and more.
The teachers in our class are called Ms A Patel (morning teacher) and Mrs Ahmed (afternoon teacher). We also have Mrs S Patel in our class to help us with our learning. There are 28 children in Polar Bears and we always work hard and try our very best. We love learning and are great at helping each other. Have a look at what we are doing this term…
In the morning we have our phonic sessions which help us to develop our reading skills and confidence. Reading is a very important part of our school and we have plenty of opportunities to read to our teacher and teaching assistants. Our books get changed on our reading day if we remember to bring them in and they have been signed. We can also bring our books in early to be changed if they have been signed at home and our teacher will try to change them as quickly as possible.
In our English lessons in Spring term 1:
We will be looking at Stories in Familiar Settings. We will be learning the story of Hansel and Gretel. We will have a go at writing some character descriptions and even get to write our own version of Hansel and Gretel! We will be trying hard to check our work makes sense and looking at ways to improve our writing. We will also get a chance to make our very own gingerbread houses and raffle them for everyone to win! Have a look at the link for more information.
In Spring Term 2 we will be taking a trip to Fantasy Settings. We are going to link this to our History topic on Space! We will look at stories with an out of this world setting and create our very own fantasy setting and character to write our very own story!
In our Maths lessons in Spring 1, we will be using larger numbers to 50 or even 100. We will be counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will also be looking at time and measures. We will be continuing to solve problems using money and explore how to multiply using repeated addition.
In Geography, we will be learning about Seasonal Changes – Comparing lengths of day/night, locating different countries in the UK. We will also become weather reporters by looking at weather patterns and reports for the UK.
In Spring Term 2 in history, we will be looking at famous astronauts Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake.
In Spring Term 1, Mrs Ahmed will be keeping the Polar Bears very busy in science. We will be learning and investigating waterproof materials, how heat affects ice linked to our Geography topic on Seasons. We will also be having an exciting science week at the end of the term!
In Spring Term 2 in science, we will be exploring materials for making a rocket and a parachute!
In Spring Term 2 we have been given some extra special Space homework. How many of them can we complete this term?
