As a Community School, we teach Religious Education using the Blackburn with Darwen Agreed Syllabus for RE (2011). The syllabus is, by law, broadly Christian, but it also promotes learning about other major world religions, including Islam and Sikhism.
We believe that Religious Education is an excellent subject for learning about the values and practices of people all around the world. It teaches about diversity, belief and culture and fosters tolerance, respect and empathy.
The Right to Withdraw
Parents have the right to withdraw their children from all or part of Religious Education, and from the legally required daily act of Collective Worship. However, we would strongly advise against this, as both play an important part in your child's development. We would advise any parent with concers to speak to the classteacher in the first instance.
